Since purchasing the California Bungalow in early 2021 we have undertaken significant renovations.
But we are not the first to have done some work on this beautiful home…….
A visit to the Apollo Bay Historical Society shows the original town plan in the 1920's
This arial photo is believed to be from the 1940's or 1950's - at this time the Norfolk Pine & Lilly Pilly are not yet planted.
By the 1960's you can see the extension has been built and the Lilly Pilly planted.
How it began…
From what we have been able to learn so far, house was built by the Birkin family before being sold to the Knight family in the late 1920’s.
Later, members of the Frape Family (some of whom still reside in Apollo Bay) owned the home.
It was then held by a Church Group for a period of time before being sold to private owners in 2011.
Robert & Chris purchased the property in 2021 and are working to restore the bungalow back to its original Art Deco inspired form.
Through to 2021, the house wore a Green & Cream colour scheme..... We also changed the gardens to be more native plant focussed and added a rescued heritage window to the living room to capture the view.
Early 2000's - The red carpet in the entry was special. We like the timber floors better. The ceiling rose in the lounge is original.

A very retro kitchen. Longer term, we plan to rebuild the kitchen in full.
This is now the black, white and green main bathroom. The bath has been restored, who knew it was a claw foot!
The bedroom has also had a bit of a refresh
2021 Renovation
The kitchen in the lounge had to go......
So it did!
The kitchen stove needed a bit of help.....
No more carpet in the dining room!!!
The stove area is nearly complete.
The extension bathroom area was completely rebuilt (it was very 1960's before!)
The bath was saved during the demo and sent off for restoration.
